Rev. Terrill Murff

Rev. Terrill Murff was called to the ministry in 1998 and completed a M-Div degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in 2002. 

Rev. Murff performed his Field Education Project at Covenant UCC by establishing Programing for Youth Ministry in September 1999. Rev. Murff was ordained and installed as Youth Pastor at Covenant UCC on October 17, 2004. He has faithfully served as Youth Pastor for 600 youths, under the pastorate of  Dr. Rev. Ozzie Smith at Covenant United Church of Christ. Rev. Murff  has created  a contemporary church worship service for children, youth and teen where we utilize “Seasons of the Spirit” lectionary-based curriculum.  The worship services are dynamic and cutting edge. 

His responsibilities also include Pastoral Liasion for the three youth choirs, overseeing Confirmation Class, Youth  Sunday Worship (fifth Sunday),  newly created  Male Mentoring program,  Youth Sound and Visual Media (for Youth Church) and responsibilities and all youth / teen church-wide activities.  He has created a Teen Council to focus, define and plan church-wide teen activities (which include annual Teen Revival, quarterly Teen Worship services and annual Teen Lock-In).

Rev. Murff worked with Rev. Andrea to develop a Youth Christian Education program which features mid-week Bible Study program for all children, youth and teens based on “Discipleland” curriculum.

Rev. Murff has successfully implemented Teen Sexuality Education Program called  “Keeping It Real”.  This program is sponsored by Religous Coalition for Reproductive Choice- Black Church Initiative.  “Keeping It Real”  empowers pre-teens and teens with “choice”  but advocates “abstinence”.  This program also  provides parents with dialog to initiate the conversations with their children regarding to abstain from sexual activity with their pre-teen and teens and is called “Breaking The Silence”. 

Secondary Responsibilities
Rev. Murff also teaches Bible study classes, perform clergy-oriented leadership roles in adult worship services, and  preach’s at  various functions, celebrations, and during regular worship services in the Pastor’s absence . 

Rev. Murff has also developed leadership program for all Ministry leaders utilizing “Biblical DISC” curriculum.   Rev. Murff performs weddings, home-going services, Eucharistic celebration, home-blessings, and baby blessings. His responsibilities include occasional counseling, crisis intervention, hospital visits, bereavement encouragement, and family prayer.

Wider-Church Responsibilities
Current Board member for Governing Council of South Suburban Hospital. Council member of the Chicago Metropolitan Association as an “At Large representative”.  Rev. Murff is also involved in the YMN (Youth Ministry Network) of the CMA, and he attends Spring and Fall Conference meetings and  Cluster 5 meetings.
