Ministries

A question was asked in 2006 on the United Church of Christ's Samuel website, "Does God's mission have a church or does God's church have a mission?"  That first question is at the root of what makes a church thrive with life--God's mission, not God's church.  God's mission is often lost in church polity and denominational ism.  However, each prophet was driven by God's mission to reach the masses with God's message.

Membership is something that every church has on it rolls, but discipleship is what a church does as its reason for becoming the church of God's mission.  The lay ministries of Covenant Church each represent a piece of God's mission in the South Holland Community and beyond.  Each ministry seeks to be the eyes, ears, hands, legs, feet, and compassion of Christ for the ongoing needs of humanity.  Ministry is bumpy, problematic, but ultimately transformative.  Acts 2:37 calls us to consider, "Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?'  Just as the disciples became transformative witnesses to Jesus' resurrection in Acts 2:37, it is believed that each person laying a hand on the gospel plow will be transformed by a renewing of their minds in Christ Jesus
